Verisimilitude: BOOM! Pregnant!

What can I say?  I have been waiting for this day for quite some time, and I'm so glad that I finally get to share it with all of you!

verisimilitude \ver-uh-si-MIL-i-tood, -tyood\, noun:
1. the appearance or semblance of truth; likelihood; probability: The play lacked verisimilitude.
2. something, as an assertion, having merely the appearance of truth.

Verisimilitude: BOOM!  Pregnant!

Go to 2:07.
You're welcome.

My epexegesis of the day...

As shameless and product placement-ish as it is, I'm going to dedicate today's post to The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.  Well, maybe not dedicate per se, but I feel that today's WoD has to do with the video they put out today.  Or at least, what I thought about it.

epexegesis
\ ep-ek-si-JEE-sis \  , noun;
1. the addition of a word or words to explain a preceding word or sentence.
2. the word or words so added.

For those of you who still do not watch LBD, change that status immediately.  Just follow this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KisuGP2lcPs

It's the link for the very first episode.  No pressure, but I hope to convert some of you by the time the year is out.  You'll thank me.

The thing about this web series though, is that there's a lot of spinoffs that show other characters' perspectives throughout the series.  Today's episode showed that of Gigi Darcy (for those of you unacquainted with the book/characters I cannot help you otherwise this post would be too long!).  We find ourselves tracking Darcy as he fearlessly treks to Orange County, looking for the pernicious Wickham.  He has yet to accomplish the task, but he does say to his beloved baby sister, "I will find him..." to which I added my own epexegesis, "... and properly kick his ass."

No, he didn't say that in the video, but come on, let's face it.  It's implied.  One cannot go to jail for making a sex tape with a non-minor and then putting it on the Internet.  But one can suffer the consequences at the hand of the valiant, dedicated Darcy.  If you're interested in watching today's episode, here it is!

The word-hoards of Pride and Prejudice

There seems to be an evident pattern in my life, as today's WoD was used to describe the film "Pride and Prejudice".

word-hoard
\ WURD-hawrd \  , noun;
1. A person's vocabulary.

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the publication of "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen.  For those of you who have not read the book, or seen one of the movies, or even watched The Lizzie Bennet Diaries after I personally recommended them... change that status.  Immediately.  In fact I'll be so bold as to make a gushy fan-girl statement and say that today's episode of The LBD is my favorite so far.  Plots become so much more pleasant to watch when the characters get along.

But because we are hopeless fans when it comes to P&P, Ashley and I decided to mark this momentous date by watching the 2005 film P&P with Keira Knightly.  Honestly one of my favorite movies, I'm absolutely head over heels for the guy who plays Darcy.  I used today's WoD during the scene of the first ball, when we are first introduced to Darcy, Bingly, and Bingly's sister.  I was, of course, impressed with the vast vocabulary in the film (it was written in a time when vocab was the thing to know), and I said to Ashley, "They have excellent word-hoard in this film."  She agreed with me.

So this blog post is hereby dedicated to Jane Austen, who gave us the very first chick-lit that has not only taught us what we should ask for in a relationship, but what we can do to improve it.  And how opening ourselves to change may be the best decision we ever make.

My small yet jubliarian event

Dictionary.com gave me a rather appropriate word today, as I actually have a small accomplishment to celebrate.

jubilarian
\ joo-buh-LAIR-ee-uhn \  , noun;
1. A person who celebrates or has celebrated a jubilee, as a nun observing 25 or more years of religious life.

I'm normally not one of those people who comments on YouTube a lot.  Actually, most of my online socialization takes place on Facebook and Twitter.  However, as previously mentioned in a post, I am obsessed with The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, and today I finally mustered up the courage to comment on one of the videos.  I didn't, by the way, use the WoD in my comment, but it does describe how I felt a few hours after my post.

I'll post the link below, no guarantees that it will always be the top comment, but it's in an episode that uses a very profound word: verisimilitude.  For all of you good-looking guys out there, I'm a sucker for a good vocabulary.  No joke, when the character Darcy does his little speech in the middle (you'll watch it, I know you will) I swoon just a little bit.  Anyway, my comment was this, "Verisimilitude: BOOM!  Pregnant!" and after a few hours, it was the top comment on the video!  TOP COMMENT!

It was the first comment I've ever made on YouTube and it's top dog!  Kinda.  Anyway, later that day I told Ashley and said, "I'm as happy as a jubilarian!"

And I still am.  I hope to GOD that the guy who plays Darcy (Daniel Vincent Gorhd) reads that comment.  And then finds my blog.  And then finds me.  And we can have profoundly deep vocabulary discussions together.  Or something fun...

You know them hypnopompic boys...

The Word of the Day today IS:

hypnopompic
\ hip-nuh-POM-pik \  , adjective;
1. Of or pertaining to the semiconscious state prior to complete wakefulness.
The aforementioned WoD reminds me a great deal of the movie Inception.  Although I'm not as smart as Leo DiCaprio's character in said movie, I was able to artfully use hypnopompic... in a text message.
Before I explain how I used the WoD, let me first tell you about a little obsession of mine and Ashley's called The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.  For absolutely any of you out there who appreciate Pride and Prejudice, you will like this web series.  The LBD is a modern day adaption of P&P by putting it in the form of a modern day web series led by the fictional grad student Lizzie Bennet.  The entire plot of P&P then ensues in a modern adaption with jobs in place of marriage, cats in place of sisters, and Los Angeles in place of London.  It's seriously amazing for those who appreciate good literature.
The LBD appears on YouTube every Monday and Thursday with a new episode, and today's episode had my favorite character in the entire franchise, Darcy.  I love it when he's on camera, especially the guy who plays him.
While in the midst of a texting conversation with Ashley, that went exactly like this:
Ashley: "Btw.  I watched LBD a bajillion times today."
Jillian: "I <3 Darcy.  And his smartical knowledge of the media.  He's hypnopompic."
Ashley: "You would..."
No, the character of Darcy is not the most delightful, sociable person in the world, but he is nonetheless endearing.  I'm sure there are 13-year-old girls all over the Internet pining for him.  He's in their dream in one way or another.  I know he's in mine.
