Bored that I was this Saturday night, I called my parents to check up on the situation in California. And by situation, I just mean their life in general, to catch up with them. As much as I like being away from home, you kind of miss the little things every now and then.
But the WoD was used in discussing my American Literature class last Wednesday. On Monday, when I had the class for the first time, my professor told the class that it was possible for her to have to cancel class on Wednesday. Let me be clear when I say that this kind of news is never taken lightly by students. When teachers make it clear that no class is a very real possibility, we go hog wild. Alternative plans are made; naps are scheduled; and I'm sure there has been champagne cracked at the idea of a free afternoon.
This scenario did not, however, play out to my advantage.
Though I checked my email perhaps a dozen time before I left my room in the morning, there was nothing saying that A.L. was cancelled. And so I went to class. And we had a quiz. A surprise quiz. Man oh man was it a surprise.
I was venting my frustration about this situation to my old man. "You just can't do that!" I whined, "cancelling class is an irrefrangible contract that is not to be tampered with! It's no joke."
He thought it was hilarious, of course. Mostly I was proud of myself for having been able to use this word in conversation like a regular person. I still wish I'd had the afternoon off though, I could've gotten a lot of nothingness done.
