Jacobin
\ JAK-uh-bin \ , noun;
1. an extreme radical, especially in politics.
2. (in the French Revolution) a member of a radical society or club of revolutionaries that promoted the Reign of Terror and other extreme measures, active chiefly from 1789 to 1794: so called from the Dominican convent in Paris, where they originally met.
3. a Dominican friar.
4. (lowercase) one of a fancy breed of domestic pigeons having neck feathers that hang over the head like a hood.
Although I did nothing politically radical today, I'll be the first to admit that I was a bit of a maniac. If it makes more sense, there was a basketball game today, against St. John's. We won, big time.
I was never into sports in the slightest before I got to Syracuse. Even now I need to sit next to a guy at every football/basketball game so he can explain what's going on to me. I don't know the rules, I just know when we win.
There was absolutely no doubt in my mind today that we would win, first of all because it was against a small college, and second of all because we played in the Dome. Syracuse hasn't lost a game in the Dome in two years, which at college age means we've never really lost at home. This thought didn't stop me from going wild at the game. No lies, I was screaming, pounding, shouting, jumping. I had to have tea when I got home to soothe my aching voice. I (along with the entire student section) was a total Jacobin, cussing out the other team and squealing for our victory.
At a 77-58 win, I think my radical behavior is justified.
