couthie
\ KOO-thee \ , adjective;
1. Agreeable; genial; kindly.
I said this word to Ashley today, in the corniest and most useless way possible. After an invigorating afternoon of playing Just Dance 4 and Wii Fit, we decided to hunker down and put the Wii to a more relaxing usage by watching something on Netflix. After Ashley expressing interest in an action movie, and me suggesting "Captain America" for the, shall we say (hunky? heroic?) good looks of one Chris Evans, and then a change of heart to a romcom, a decision was finally made. I suggested "Something's Gotta Give", a great and true romantic comedy written/directed by Nancy Meyers starring Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. If you have not seen this movie, take a break, watch the movie, and come back to read the rest of this post. You'll thank me later.
Welcome back.
I got to the aforementioned Word of the Day when Ashley mentioned to me that a picture of the two of us was going to be her picture of the day. I was flattered, and I also thought it appropriate, so I said, "What a couthie idea!"
At last, after four days of throwing around fancy words, I get a reaction from somebody.
"What's couthie?" she asked me. When I told her, Ashley said, "Is that the Word of the Day!?" I answered her with a smile and a nod and we hunkered down to figure out which of her six remotes (no kidding, six) worked the TV.
Just a quick spoiler alert, while "Something's Gotta Give" does have a couthie ending, it's a bumpy ride, and should not be watched by those who hate cliches.
