An advert on my day

Hello Internet.

On this fine day (exactly 10 months before my birthday), dictionary.com has given me this word to work with:

advert
\ ad-VURT \  , verb;
1. To remark or comment; refer (usually followed by to): He adverted briefly to the news of the day .
2. To turn the attention (usually followed by to): The committee adverted to the business at hand

 It was used in the following context.  Scenario:

[Interior.  A girl sits at the kitchen table with her parents, eating dinner and watching the nightly news, but not quite late enough to be watching Brian Williams.  A segment about what some celebrities did for New Year's comes up, and the topic quickly takes a turn towards inebriation.]
 It is here that my father makes a comment about such behavior.  The details aren't important, (and I only say that because I don't remember his exact words, I've had a very full evening) but it involved a comment on celebrities today and they're partying ways, blah blah blah.
But, ready with my WoD and sharp wit, I responded with, "Hmm, that's an interesting social advert."

After I said this, (and being the only person in the room who was aware that I was using a WoD), I paused for some kind of comment on my atypical utilization of such a sophisticated word.  No dice.  While my dad is the only other person in the world that I know who appreciates good vocabulary, he did not comment (or advert, if you will haha) on my word.  He just kept watching television.

Oh well, at least I got it out there. I'd also like to post dictionary.com's link for those of you looking for other synonyms, antonyms, fancy words, or anything that could improve your daily usage of words.  Hopefully others out there will notice.
